309S Cold Drawn Stainless Steel Pipe

Description

The stainless steel 309S tube is austenitic steel with at least 18% chromium and 8% nickel and contains up to 0.08% carbon. Due to the low carbon content of this stainless steel, no chemical precipitation occurs during normal heat treatment and welding. This eliminates the risk of corrosion occurring after general heat treatment and welding. Stainless steel 309S pipe is non-magnetic steel and cannot be hardened by heat treatment, but must be cold worked to obtain higher tensile strength. In addition to the application of stress relief, stainless steel 309S pipes typically do not require annealing.
